SrTiO3 crystals have the perovskite-type structure and are transparent in a wide range of visible to infrared regions. The crystals are relatively inexpensive and of stable quality, and the TiO2-layer-terminated “step and terrace surface” can be reproducibly obtained by wet etching after surface polishing of the (100) surface. Thus, SrTiO3 is widely used worldwide as a substrate material for thin-film growth.
